How voice search will affect SEO

Content is the king and it will always be. Just they get updated and get more advanced with time. Artificial intelligence is marking its presence more than ever. In traditional SEO, marketers used to search for some most search terms as primary and secondary keywords and they target those keywords in text contents, image alt tags, meta tags, video transcripts etc. But the traditional approach seems to be getting overshadowed soon with voice search approach.

Voice search is going to make SEO more technical for the marketers as they need to read users mind more accurately. And yes, the most important thing, semantic search will play a great role, devices will be knowing about the users and their locality environment more than the users. These devices will be their saviour in all the lost situations. So, the search marketers just think like you are creating the tactics and strategies which will save and help the users in any difficult situation. Let’s see some practical examples.

1. Suppose it’s a rainy season and you want to know the weather updates of coming Sunday as you are planning an outing with your loved ones. Now see the difference between your searches

-(Traditional approach) Weather on 25 Jan California.

– (Voice search) Is it going to rain this weekend. (or) Will I require my umbrella this weekend.

2. You went to a new place and somehow you lost your way and you are feeling like trapped inside a maze. Then you will search like

(Traditional approach) At first you will search for your current location with “current location”. and after the if you come to know about that place where you are the you will search for how to reach from that place to your destination by searching “how to go from great land to square building”

(Voice search) Where am I right now. Tell me how to reach square building from here.

Now see yourself which one is easy and user friendly yourself. Voice search is being more friendly and instantly answering to all the queries in one go. While in the traditional approach you struggle a bit to get the answers.

How to optimize content for voice search

Search marketers need to focus more on conversational and long tail keyword approach instead of traditional keyword tactics. A good long tail keyword is at least seven words in length and now users are using them more. In order to keep the websites, search engine friendly contents should me natural and talkative like. The questionable words and sentences should be understood and implemented correctly.

‘Why’, ‘What is’, ‘How to’, etc. will be used more. Marketers will have to assume like they are customer service representative, the users are standing in front of them and are ordering or asking questions. In return they expect for the correct and instant answers of their queries.

A marketer can implement the tactics like adding a ‘frequently asked questions’ sections to their content. They can provide discussion platforms where users can discuss in a conversational way or writing blogs which voice searchable titles and phrases. They will have to understand the customer’s conversations and note down the phrases customers often use to describe their problems. Interviewing the customers by phone or asking them simple question will let you know exactly what they could say while voice searching.

Optimizing for local search will be only a win always as according to Google half of voice searches are done for the local queries. Like ‘Thai restaurant near me’, ‘Nearest shopping mall from here’, ‘Nearest automobile repairing shop’, etc. The words like ‘near me’, ‘nearest’, ‘from here’ will be used now and then. So, if you don’t want to fall behind and want to be discover-able in voice searches when someone near you is searching for the services that exactly you serve, then optimize for local search. Now the question arises ‘How to optimize SEO for local Search?’.

Start from listing your services to the local directories, get a local address and a local number updated on your site, update opening hours, prices, directions from nearby roads and landmarks, register for ‘Google my business’ and most important, identify the rich snippets and implement structured data and schema mark-up on them so that it becomes easy to identify what exactly is the data about and the data becomes scan-able for search engines. Data could be structured on basis of schema.org vocabulary, such as Products, Places, Events, Services, Person, Organization, Local Business, Address, Ratings, Reviews, Images, Videos, Blog Post, Job Offers, etc. search engines just need to know what that content is all about.

Don’t forget to analyse the insights and performances. Integrate analytics and get the insights to find which terms are attracting users and which terms you need to improve. Till now there is no separate analytics for voice searches and regular search but search engines like Bing and Google are already there to implement it soon.

Always opt for mobile first approach, mobile devices are dominating the larger devices. Your contents will be scanned later for voice search, they will be searched for mobile responsiveness first.so to clear the way for search bots to fetch your site content make it responsive. Trimming the mobile-friendly sites for the essential data to load faster and provide amazing user experience will help in voice search

Conclusion:

For marketers, it will be challenging but more interesting to adapt for voice search tactics. They need to focus more on how users make conversations, which phrases they often use for solutions. Long tail keywords and questionable phrases need to be focused instead of regular keywords. Optimizing for local search will be a boon. Implement these strategies and enjoy the voices search.
