Do you know the story of a mother who damaged her liver by consuming the drink called ‘red bull” in bulk daily? It is easy to get used to bad habits but, once you become an addict to that, it is hard to get rid of that.
In fact, she started with one or two cans daily, but attracted by the taste of the drink, she started drinking around twenty cans daily and this caused great damage to her liver.
At one stage, that woman was admitted to the hospital with acute pain in her stomach and she was forced to give up her addiction towards the drink while in hospital. Later, an MRI scan clearly revealed that her liver was found to be double in size than the normal one. This result helped the doctors to come to a conclusion that she is an alcoholic and a drunkard, even though it is not so.
A simple statistics revealed that she had spent more than a lakh of rupees on the drink “red bull” and it was also found that a large number of empty cans were scattered in all parts of her house.
Medical history shows that if a person is in the habit of consuming excessive alcohol, it will contribute fibrosis leading to cirrhosis and these stages can cause inflammation of the liver. In fact, diet laden with sugar can accumulate and build up in the liver and later this can be the reason
for the inflammation of the liver.
On enquiry by the doctors, that particular woman accepted that she used to buy the “red bull” cans in bulk and multi packets from the supermarket. She always wanted to have a buffer stock of the drink, stored in the refrigerator for ready use, and this has encouraged her to drink more and more on a daily basis.
She confessed that she would start drinking the first can of “red bull” in two or three sips and the second won she decides to last longer.
The woman never cared to take essential drinks other than “red bull” and this has resulted in abnormal increase in her weight apart from the damage done to her liver. Excessive weight may also lead to other health problems such as heart attack, hypertension, mental stress and the like.
The health experts all over the world opined that the drink “red bull”contains about eighty milligrams of caffeine and actually a cup of coffee contains an equal quantity of caffeine too. It is also true that excessive consumption of any drink will lead to complications and ill health. It is an established fact that energy drinks should be moderately used as one among the parts of balanced diet and this will result in leading a healthy lifestyle.
Our aim should be to lead a healthy life and this could be achieved by adopting the practices of taking balanced and healthy diet, as suggested by dieticians and doing recommended workouts on a regular basis.
